OK another easy one today!

The deliberate attempt (unfortunately successful) of the Japanese whaling ship to crash into and sink Sea Shepherd’s Ady Gil is

A FUCKING DISGRACE

and I sincerely hope that the Japs will be taken to court for this.

Honestly if this isn’t a deliberate ramming I don’t know what is. What were they thinking? 500 tons of metal v a few tons of plastic, on open sea. I call that attempted murder.

(I could go on but I’d just get too wound up.)

Update: after the “heated debate” in the comments I’d thought I’d brighten the mood a bit by adding this South Park episode:

  1. >…the Japs…

    That’s not only rude…it’s racist!

And if you saw the full, unedited footage of that crash you’d know that the Sea Shepherd vessel was continuously maneuvering back and forth in front of the whaling vessel which made the collision unavoidable.

If anyone should be tried in court it’s every member of Sea Shepherd for dangerously harassing whalers and putting the their lives in danger simply because they disagree with a perfecting legal activity.

They’re the type of people who would attack abortion doctors because they disagree with the law.

    >I could go on but I’d just get too wound up.

    Me too.

  2. “That’s not only rude…it’s racist!”
No, it’s just swearing. And that has never hurt anyone, unlike sinking ships at open sea.

    “which made the collision unavoidable”
Unavoidable? How about the whaler turning its engines down a little?

“putting the their lives in danger”
How are they putting the whalers’ lives in danger exactly, with that speedboat? Or butyric acid?
Or do you mean to take them to court for endangering their own lives? That would be news.

    “perfecting legal activity”
Oh yeah right, legal, sure. It’s doubly illegal, in fact (Google “1986 commercial whaling moratorium” and “southern ocean whale sanctuary”).

“They’re the type of people who would attack abortion doctors because they disagree with the law”
Well first they have actually never hurt a whaler, second they do have the law on their side. So this comparison doesn’t hold.

  3. >No, it’s just swearing.

    No. It’s a derogatory name.

    >sinking ships at open sea.

Which, by the way, the Sea Shepherd has intentionally done and has said would like to do again.

    >Unavoidable? How about the whaler turning its engines down a little?

Or even better, how about if the Sea Shepherd followed the rules of the sea and didn’t zig-zag dangerously in front of other ships?

On the news here, they showed the entire footage. What you have on your blog is the edited version.
Funny how the Sea Shepherd removed the beginning of the film that showed their dangerous antics.

    >How are they putting the whalers’ lives in danger exactly, with that speedboat? Or butyric acid?

Sea Shepherd doesn’t only have small boats. They have acted just as recklessly with their large vessels.
And they have thrown brass fittings and flares at the whalers decks. As well as aiming lasers at the crew’s eyes while they were navigating.

    >Or do you mean to take them to court for endangering their own lives?

No, I meant the whalers. I mistyped. Although their antics do put their own lives in danger, as well.

    >It’s doubly illegal

Currently, Canada, Japan, the U.S., Russia, Iceland, Norway, Greenland, and a few other countries hunt whale within the legal limits set by the IWC.

    >Well first they have actually never hurt a whaler, second they do have the law on their side. So this comparison doesn’t hold.

The fact that no one has been seriously hurt or killed by the Sea Shepherd‘s antics is only because they’ve been lucky so far.
And many people would agree that it’s the whalers who are legally doing their job and the Sea Shepherd are putting lives at risk.

You know though, I doubt the Sea Shepherd really want to see an end to whaling. What would they do without it?
Ironically though, if the Sea Shepherd wasn’t harassing Japanese fishermen, whaling would probably fade away.
Noone really eats whale much anymore…but the whalers have immense support in Japan because they’re being attacked by those pirates!

  4. Well I’m just going to bring an end to this to-and-fro and call “agree to disagree”. We could be arguing till the whales come home. You are just as entitled to your opinion as I am to mine.

Anyway thanks for the interest and the effort to leave a comment, albeit one I disagree with ;), it’s more than most people do.
